Mei Wei Yuan
About This Spot
Stepping into Mei Wei Yuan feels like discovering a quiet corner of authentic China tucked away in the heart of Salamanca. The space embraces a humble, no-frills charm that gently shifts your focus onto what truly matters here: the food and the stories behind each dish. It’s the kind of place where the pace slows just enough to savor flavors that carry the warmth of home kitchens far from Spain’s usual sights and sounds.
The atmosphere is unpretentious and inviting, more about genuine human connection than polished presentation. The informal, bustling rhythm invites locals and travelers alike to share a meal without pretense, savoring dishes that echo time-honored recipes and thoughtful craftsmanship. This is a spot where conversations blend with the subtle sizzle from the kitchen, creating a soothing soundtrack to each experience.
Dining here is a journey through textures and aromas that unfold naturally — the comforting bite of crispy yet tender dumplings, the earthy touch of slow-simmered eggplant mingling with seasoned meat, or the lively interplay of sweet and tangy notes in expertly balanced sauces. It’s not just eating; it’s a small, daily celebration of flavors that are both familiar and adventurous, lifted further by a quiet attentiveness in every plate.
What makes Mei Wei Yuan feel especially like a local gem is how it manages to balance tradition with an openness that quietly resonates with everyone who steps in. While the décor remains modest, the care in the kitchen fills the room, warming even the simplest moments around the table. It’s a place that invites you to pause and discover the joy hidden in everyday tastes, proving that authenticity doesn’t need to shout — it speaks softly, but lingers thoughtfully.

The most authentic Chinese food in Salamanca. I am a native Chinese from Shanghai visiting Salamanca, the chef made really tasty dishes that have the exact same flavor as I eat in Shanghai. Recommended dishes are chicken with chestnuts, mung bean noodles with langostinos. It's a really good quality/price ratio. I will definitely go eat one more time before I leave.

Was a great meal especially when we were missing Chinese food. Ordrered three dishes and they were all of good standard . Restaurant decor was simple and basic but the food was really great from an Asian perspective. Mapo doufu, fried long beans and fried pork stripes were all yummy with a nice bowl of white rice ! And the price is super reasonable! Would definitively recommend all Asians travellers whom are missing home food :) good spcie too!

Each and every items was delicious Now this is our best restaurant in the town. Don’t forget to try fish and mutton. I never had delicious cucumber salad before must try.

Edit: we contacted the restaurant to request a few dishes for takeaway that we would pickup. My husband wasn’t feeling well, and we wanted to eat at our apartment. The lady rudely said no. Strange! Food was really delicious & flavorful. As appreciative as we are of Spanish food, after 2 weeks it’s tasting very bland so we sought out Chinese in Salamanca and were pleasantly surprised. The lady was not rude (though not very friendly either) but accommodated any requests we made. Don’t let the reviews turn you off. Planning another meal here before we leave.

[Gets full house quickly, booking highly advised] Ran by a Chinese couple where the husband’s single handedly responsible for the kitchen, and the wife single handedly at the counter and around the table. Food was rapidly served, delicious and with decent ingredients. Portion is very satisfying especially for bigger eaters. They will do their best to accomplish dietary restrictions. Highly recommended especially for the price point and quality ratio.

We ordered eggplant, cucumber, sweet and sour fish, pork with green onions and tofu skin; they were all delicious Our only complaint is that the white rice was not well cooked. Use Google Translate if you are not comfortable with Spanish. Reservations are highly recommended. I reserved the table through WhatsApp. They responded immediately.
